Kura Kura Marina FAQ: Berths, Opening, Charter & Builds
This Kura Kura Marina FAQ answers the questions owners, captains, and charter clients put to our yacht desk most often: construction status, reported berth capacity, the phased opening from 2026, charter seasons and typical published rates, phinisi construction, and the ground services we already run around Serangan Island. Short answers first, sourced detail underneath, revised whenever verifiable reporting changes.
This is an independent information and yacht-services platform. We are not affiliated with the Kura Kura Bali development, BTID, or the marina operator. Everything we publish about the marina itself is attributed reporting. Everything we offer directly — charter, construction, transfers, security, media — is delivered through our group’s own operating brands, working Indonesian waters since 2015.
Answers, by subject
Four registers: the marina itself, charter, building and owning, and the ground services we run around Serangan.
What is Kura Kura Marina, and where exactly is it?
Kura Kura Marina is a yacht marina under construction inside the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone on Serangan Island, Denpasar — a 498-hectare zone designated under Government Regulation 23/2023 and developed by PT Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID). The site sits on Bali’s southeast coast between Sanur and Nusa Dua, roughly 15 minutes by road from Ngurah Rai International Airport.
What is the construction status in July 2026?
Main marina works have been reported underway since April 2025, with an underwater infrastructure phase — seabed preparation and works below the waterline — reported across 2025 and 2026. That sequence is normal for a project of this scale: the least visible engineering comes first. We track construction milestones and publish what can be verified, with attribution, on our marina overview.
How many yachts will the marina hold?
Reported capacity is around 146 yachts. Treat that as a reported figure rather than a final berthing plan: the berth mix, maximum length overall, and any superyacht allocation have not been published in verifiable technical detail. When an official berthing plan and tariff schedule appear, our berthing rates page will carry them, clearly attributed to the operator.
When does Kura Kura Marina open?
The reported plan is a phased opening from 2026 onward. No single confirmed opening date has been published as of late July 2026, and we will not invent one. Phased means sections of the waterfront, services, and berths come online in stages rather than on one opening day — so the practical question is not “when does it open” but “which phase serves my boat, and when.” We flag every dated, attributable announcement as it lands.
What water depth and yacht sizes will the marina take?
No verified figures for approach depth, fairway width, or maximum length overall have been published yet, so any specific number you read elsewhere is, for now, speculation. The details that will matter to captains are the ones we watch for: dredged depth at datum, tidal windows on the approach, berth draft, and turning room for larger hulls. As soon as the operator publishes technical specifications, we will report them with attribution.
How is Kura Kura Marina different from Benoa?
Benoa is Bali’s commercial and cruise port. The government’s Bali Maritime Tourism Hub plan for Benoa remains under development, and it is not today a Mediterranean-grade superyacht marina. Kura Kura Marina is being purpose-built for yachts inside a special economic zone next door. If both mature, Bali ends up with a working port and a dedicated marina minutes apart — the arrangement most serious yachting hubs eventually settle into.
Is this the official marina website, and can I book a berth here?
No. This is an independent information and yacht-services platform, not affiliated with the Kura Kura Bali development, BTID, or the marina operator. We do not sell, reserve, or promise berths — no one outside the operator can. What we do is monitor the project for owners and captains, prepare arrival logistics, and deliver charter, construction, transfer, and security services through our own group brands today.
What else is being built inside the Kura Kura Bali SEZ?
Two reported developments deserve an owner’s attention. The Grand Outlet, a Mitsubishi Estate and BTID joint venture of roughly 150 stores, is reported to open on 31 July 2026 — days away as we write. Separately, government direction points to the zone becoming the Indonesia Financial Center: President Prabowo has directed the designation, and Coordinating Minister Airlangga said in May 2026 that the financial-sector SEZ would include a family-office scheme. A marina beside a financial center is the pairing Monaco built an industry on; for Bali it remains an aspiration to watch, not an established fact.
When is the best season to charter to Komodo?
May through September. The Komodo basin — reached from Bali via Nusa Penida, Lombok, and Sumbawa — gets its calmest seas and driest skies in these months, which is why the region’s charter fleets concentrate there. July and August are the peak of the peak; shoulder weeks in May, June, and September trade a little certainty for noticeably better availability.
When is Raja Ampat charter season?
October through April, the mirror of Komodo season. Serious charter fleets reposition between the two basins across the year — Komodo from May to September, Raja Ampat from October to April — so a well-planned calendar can run both inside twelve months. Raja Ampat departures stage out of Sorong, the logistics, flight, and clearance gateway for the archipelago’s far east.
What does a yacht or phinisi charter cost?
Typical published broker ranges, quoted as ranges because every vessel, date, and itinerary prices differently: boutique phinisi of 30–45 m from US$35,000–80,000 per week; luxury phinisi and yachts of 40–65 m from US$80,000–150,000 per week; ultra-luxury and expedition vessels from US$150,000–250,000+ per week.
Base rates typically exclude an Advance Provisioning Allowance for fuel, food, and consumables, plus national park and government fees. Rates for our own group fleet — including the Komodo Prestige and Komodo Signature lines — are on request via WhatsApp.
Which routes do charters actually run?
Two corridors carry most of the traffic in this 17,508-island archipelago. Eastbound from Bali: Nusa Penida and Lembongan, across to Lombok and the Gili Islands, along Sumbawa, and into Komodo National Park. In the far east: out of Sorong to Waigeo, the Dampier Strait, Misool, and the Fam group. Route detail, and what each leg asks of your schedule, starts on our Komodo charter page.
Should I book a phinisi or a motor yacht?
Book a phinisi if the vessel itself is part of the point: a hand-built wooden ship with sail rig, wide open decks, and a crew culture descended from Sulawesi’s boatbuilding communities. Choose a motor yacht if speed between anchorages and a fully modern platform matter more. In practice, the character boats of the Indonesian fleet are phinisi, and the phinisi is the format most guests associate with these waters.
What is APA, and what does the base rate exclude?
The Advance Provisioning Allowance is a float held against the trip’s actual running costs: fuel, provisioning, drinks, port charges, and park fees. The base rate buys the vessel and crew; the APA covers what the voyage consumes. Unspent APA is accounted back to you, and overruns are settled at the end of the charter. Park fees for Komodo and Raja Ampat are set by the authorities and charged in addition.
How far ahead should I book a charter?
For July–August Komodo weeks and end-of-year Raja Ampat dates, the strongest boats are committed well ahead — often the better part of a year for named vessels. Shoulder-season flexibility shortens that considerably. One WhatsApp message with dates, guest count, and preferred basin gets a realistic availability picture from our desk, including day charters and event sailings out of Bali while the marina is still under construction.
How do visiting foreign-flag yachts clear into Indonesia?
Clearance happens at designated entry ports; the old CAIT pre-clearance regime was abolished in the mid-2010s, and Presidential Regulation 105/2015 relaxed cabotage restrictions for visiting foreign cruise vessels and yachts. Private foreign-flag yachts cruise under temporary admission. Nongsa Point Marina in Batam, opposite Singapore, remains the classic entry gateway from the north, while Bali and Sorong serve the central and eastern routes. This is general information, not legal advice — verify current procedure with licensed agents before you sail.
Why are Indonesia’s top charter yachts locally built phinisi?
Cabotage. Indonesian law favors Indonesian-flag vessels for commercial work inside the archipelago, and running paid charters requires an Indonesian entity holding the right licenses. The practical consequence: the high-end charter fleet is dominated by locally built, Indonesian-flagged phinisi — building in-country with Indonesian yards is the core commercial rationale, not a romantic preference. This is information, not legal advice; flag and structure decisions belong with licensed professionals.
What exactly is a phinisi?
A large wooden vessel built in the South Sulawesi tradition, with hulls of 30–50 meters and more raised by hand on open beaches. The craft — the “Art of boatbuilding in South Sulawesi” — was inscribed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017, centered on Bulukumba Regency and the Konjo boatbuilding community at Tana Beru, Bira, and Lemo-Lemo. A modern charter phinisi pairs that hull tradition with contemporary systems, safety equipment, and guest accommodation.
Who would build my boat, and where?
Through our group’s construction brands, described honestly as ours: hull work in Bulukumba where the tradition lives, build and fit-out programs in Labuan Bajo, and full custom projects — phinisi, luxury yachts, dive and expedition vessels, catamarans — under Boat Construction Indonesia. Traditional timbers such as Ulin ironwood and Bitti, documented on honest build cards. Start with the phinisi construction page and bring us your brief.
How long does a new phinisi build take?
It depends on size, specification, and the yard’s pipeline, and we will not quote a generic number that pretends otherwise. A build moves through distinct stages — timber sourcing and hull raising on the beach, launch, then systems and interior fit-out — each with its own clock. What we commit to is a scoped, staged timeline for your specific project before any money moves, and progress reporting against it during the build.
Should I import my yacht or build locally?
Run the numbers both ways before deciding. A foreign-flag private yacht can cruise Indonesia under temporary admission without importing at all. Permanent import triggers duties — reported at around 10 percent depending on classification — plus VAT and possibly luxury goods tax (PPnBM). Commercial ambitions change the calculus entirely, because charter work pushes owners toward Indonesian flag and locally built tonnage. This is information, not legal or financial advice; verify current rates and procedure with licensed agents.
What does running commercial charters legally require?
An Indonesian entity — typically a PT PMA, the foreign-investment company form — holding the required licenses, plus a vessel that satisfies cabotage rules favoring Indonesian flag. This is the regulatory spine behind the local-build fleet described above. Setting the structure up correctly at the start costs far less than repairing it later. Information, not legal advice: engage licensed corporate and maritime professionals for the specifics.
Who runs the boat after delivery?
That is what yacht management exists for: crewing, planned maintenance, compliance calendars, berthing and repositioning logistics, and — if you charter the boat out — marketing and booking administration. Our group runs management alongside construction and charter, which means the people who build and charter this class of vessel also maintain it. Scope and terms are on the yacht management page; rates on request via WhatsApp.
Do you run airport-to-marina transfers?
Yes. Serangan sits about 15 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport, and our group’s transfer brand runs a premium fleet — Toyota Alphard and Vellfire as standard, up to a Rolls-Royce Ghost — for owners, guests, and crew. Scheduled crew rotations, guest arrivals timed to departures, and multi-vehicle moves are routine work. Details on the marina airport transfer page; rates on request via WhatsApp.
What is VIP fast-track at the airport?
A meet-on-arrival service at DPS: your party is met as they land, escorted through the fast-track immigration channel, baggage handled, vehicle waiting curbside. For charter guests connecting to a vessel the same day — or owners arriving for sea trials — it removes the one part of the journey Bali handles worst: the terminal queue. Arranged through our group’s concierge brand; rates on request.
Do you provide security for yachts and owners?
Yes — a dedicated division covers superyacht and maritime security, secure ground transport, money escort, and 24/7 protection. Owners typically engage it for guest movements between villa, airport, and vessel, for high-value deliveries to the boat, and for operations in busy anchorages. It is the same infrastructure our own charter operations rely on, offered to outside owners and captains on request.
Can you produce media for my yacht or charter business?
Yes. Our group’s production house shoots and edits fleet films, charter listing photo and video sets, and full owner websites, and runs the digital side — SEO, advertising, social — for charter businesses. If you are putting a new build or a refitted vessel on the charter market, listing-grade media is usually the highest-leverage first spend. Portfolio and scope via the yacht desk.
Can you arrange visas and long-stay permits?
Our group’s concierge arm arranges visas and KITAS stay permits — including investor visa routes — along with medical concierge support for owners spending real time in Indonesia. Immigration rules change and individual cases differ, so treat this as arranged assistance backed by licensed processing, not a substitute for formal advice. One WhatsApp thread scopes what your situation actually needs.
